Blog Tour Review: A Whole New Crowd by Tijan

Saturday, August 30, 2014

Taryn grew up in a different world. Her boyfriend was a criminal. His older brother was part of a gang. They weren't great people, but they were her family. Then everything changes when she's sent to a new family in the neighboring town. New family. New friends. A new world. She's elated. This is her chance for a new beginning, but secrets start being revealed and Taryn learns her new life has some ties to her old one, ties that she's not happy about. Her new family might not have been the lucky break she thought she had.

Then he nodded. “Congratulations.”
“On what?”
“You earned their respect.”
I snorted. “I don’t care.”
“I know.” A smile teased at the corners of his lips. “They saw that too and because of that, they fear you now.”

“I may be an asshole, but I’m an asshole you can trust.” He smirked as he reached behind him and then placed a cold bottle in my hand. “I promise.” He took my other hand and led me back downstairs.
Maybe it wasn’t a great decision, but I gave in. The fight was always in me to survive and for once, I didn’t want to fight. I wanted to be watched over. If he volunteered for that position, so be it. Brian never watched over me. I watched over him and Jace had rarely been around.
When he sat on the couch, I curled up next to him and enjoyed my place among his group of friends. As the morning and afternoon passed by, I heard and saw the respect they had for Tray. They listened when he spoke. Everyone turned to him and no one ignored him. They genuinely liked him.
People had never genuinely liked Brian or Jace. Jace was feared. He was respected, but I didn’t know if anyone in his life liked him. It was the opposite for Brian. He was tolerated. He was a hothead. No one knew when he would explode and so he earned a reputation as being unpredictable. He was met with caution wherever he went.
It was an alien feeling, watching this different world unfold before me.
I liked it.

Tijan has done it again ladies and gentlemen. I don't think there is a book that Tijan has written that I have not loved. A Whole New Crowd is similar to the Fallen Crest series in that it's set in high school. Also, there is one female lead and two-sometimes three male leads, with a lot of supporting characters that play a huge part in the story. But what was different and something that I loved about AWNC was that this can be read as a stand alone so it ends and you don't have to wait for the "what happens next?" This book also has great plot twists and secrets and you will find yourself trying to guess what is going on throughout the book, only to realize you were absolutely wrong!!!!

Taryn is a strong-willed girl  who was dealt a shitty hand in life. Tossed around in the foster care system, she grew to never expect too much from anyone. There really are only 2 people in her life she trusted, Jace and Brian. One problem though, one was a criminal and drug addict and the other the leader of the gang in the town of Pedlam. It all changes when she turns 17 and a new family wants to adopt her. This is her chance to turn her life around and make something of herself. Is she ready to try and fit into A Whole New Crowd?

"Damn straight I was going to try. This is what I did. If there was a wall, safe, lock or any barrier put in front of me. I would tear it down."

Tray Evans is the poster boy of Rawley, the new town Taryn finds herself a resident of. He is sexy, rich, popular and doesn't like to take no for an answer. Taryn knows he is trouble from the first time she meets him but she can not deny the way her body feels when he is close to her. Not even Brian made her feel this way and he was her first......everything. Tray sets out on a mission to get Taryn to help him prank Pedlam-a long running tradition between the two schools. To Taryn it's more than a prank because Pedlam is where her past is and the only two people she ever thought she could trust live. What starts out as a one time deal between Taryn and Tray quickly morphs into friendship as Taryn is constantly pummeled by her past. Beaten and battered she keeps getting up and fighting back. With Tray by her side she is quickly realizing that maybe what she thought she knew and who she thought she could trust was just a bunch of lies. How many times can you get knocked down before you can't get back up?

"He was like a drug. The more I got from him, the more I needed. He was becoming an addiction."

I love Tijan! I have since I started reading her stories as a fan fiction author. Not only is she an amazing author but she is also a caring, compassionate person. I truly feel that she cares about her readers and she wants to make them happy. I know that I will forever be a Tijan fan and one day I hope that I can meet her and tell her in person how wonderful I think she is. I give A Whole New Crowd by Tijan 4.5 glasses of Pinot. Cheers and I am patiently waiting for Fallen Fourth Down!!!!

Tijan started writing later in life, after she had already graduated college with a different direction in mind and a different degree under her belt. Hitting the brakes on that path, she taught herself how to write a good book and began posting at sites such as Fictionpress, along with Wattpad. After receiving such encouraging messages from readers, she self-published Fallen Crest High and has continued throughout the year. She continues to keep writing NA books!
