Bait by M. Mabie- Part One in The Wake Series

bait cover

He was trouble from the start, but I couldn’t resist. She was the best kind of trouble. The kind that was so wrong, it felt right.
I’ve tried and failed to stay away from him. I’ve done everything in my power to make her mine and keep her.
He’s almost impossible to say no to. She never tells me yes.
We’re always fighting. When we’re not fighting, we’re… well… making up.
He makes me laugh so hard. I miss her laugh the most.
I’m a liar. She knows the truth, but won’t admit it.
Sometimes, I wish I’d never met him. I wish we could meet all over again. I’d do better.
His sweet girlfriend knows. The guy she’s with is a fool.
I’ll never love anyone like I love him. She doesn’t love me enough to choose us.
It was the wrong place. It was the wrong time.
It should have been him. It will always be her.

So anyone who knows me knows that I am a HUGE M. Mabie fan! I love her so hard it's borderline obsessive. I remember back when I read Fade In and how much I loved it and couldn't wait for her next book. When I got wind that BAIT was being written and then started to see the teaser I was so excited. Little did I know that BAIT was going to be so very different from what Fade In was. My heart was in for it and man did it take a beating. Like I told Mo, I left my heart on her doorstep battered and bruised.

Where do I even start with this book.....
Blake.....oh sweet, sweet Blake. Blake is the perfect girl on paper. Well bred, driven, beautiful and a great sense of humor. She has the perfect boyfriend and a family that loves her. She meets Casey when she travels to San Francisco for her friend Micah's graduation. When they go out to a bar to celebrate Micha's boyfriend Cory brings his twin brother Casey with him. Blake is instantly attracted to Casey and despite her boyfriend, Grant who is back home she finds herself in a hotel room with Casey that night. The heat and attraction that Blake feels for Casey is unlike any she has ever felt. She should feel guilty for these thoughts and lusting after this man but she can't seem to help herself. It also doesn't make it easier for her to deny Casey when he wants her just as bad and looks at her like he wants to consume her.

"This isn't a f*cking love story, Casey. This is life." ~ Blake

Casey is adorable and I feel so hard for him. He is funny, smart, handsome and loves to live life. He wears his heart on his sleeve and puts in 100%. When Casey first sees Blake at the bar, he tries so hard to seem uninterested but she is just so damn gorgeous. The attraction is instant for him and he wants her in his bed. Caught up in a whirlwind romance with Blake, Casey falls quick and hard for the fun, pretty girl who is stealing his heart. But why does she keep wanting to break it and push him away? How many times can one person stomp on your heart before the pieces can't be put back together?

"Our pain and our love are one and the same. I’ll wait for you. Probably, forever if that's what it takes." ~Casey~

I loved and hated this book so hard! I wanted to bite, punch, kick and slap Blake so hard at times. I wanted to hold Casey and comfort him and tell him it was going to be okay. I think I experienced all emotions while reading. This book does end in a cliffhanger but it's one that, even though you want to know what happens next, it doesn't leave you hanging in the middle of a sentence. Bravo M. Mabie you have yet again produced an amazing book to read. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone! Take the BAIT and then wait patiently for book two. I know I will, well maybe not patiently......I gave BAIT by M. Mabie 4.5 glasses of pinot. Keep being amazing Mo and I can't wait to read the rest of Casey and Blake's story.

M. Mabie has never been accused of being tight lipped or shy. She’s THAT girl.
